How to know production date of Panasonic 18650 battery cells?

It is easy to find and identify the production date of Panasonic 18650 battery cells, it contains four numbers or numbers + letters, and printed nearby the negative pole.


New version Panasonic 18650 cells has 2 black bars on the PET shrink tube(nearby the positive pole) - a wide bar and a narrow bar. The old version has only one narrow bar. It must be very old version and be manufactured before 2009, if a Panasonic 18650 cell with dot matrix on its top. For example:


Panasonic NCR18650PF 2900mAh 3.6V - date code: 6524

The first number "6" = Year (2010=0; 2011=1; ... 2016=6; 2017=7; 2018=8, and so on...)

The second number "5" = Month (JAN=1; FEB=2; ... SEP=9; OCT=X; NOV=Y; DEC=Z)

The third and fourth number "24" = Day (1st=01; 2nd=02; ... 30th=30; 31st=31)

Conclusion, code: 6524 means the battery made in 24th. May. 2016.


Panasonic NCR18650BD 3200mAh 3.6V - code: 8X08, means battery made in 8th. Oct. 2018.
